About
Hi, I’m Nina, a writer and editor based in Oakland, California.
I'm the author of Good Morning, Destroyer of Men's Souls, a memoir and cultural history of codependency, which was published by Crown in 2020. My writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, The New Republic, Poetry Foundation, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Words Without Borders, Jewish Currents, Jezebel, Departures, Elle, Eater, Dirt, Dossier, Romper, The Rumpus, and elsewhere.
Books are my joy. Along with writing reviews and a newsletter about books called Dollface, I’m currently occupied with two primary literary projects: writing a novel, and translating (slowly!) an out-of-print Russian novella.
I grew up in New Jersey in the 80s and 90s, fascinated by the Cold War, and spent many years studying Soviet history and culture before deciding to step off the academic path. Since then, I’ve worked in global health, branding, media, and tech. I’m currently a Senior Writer and Editor at Apple.
In previous editorial roles at magazines and in my freelance life, I’ve been lucky to travel widely and interview dynamic chefs, hoteliers, and entrepreneurs from around the world. I’m particularly inspired by chefs who are innovating to better our planet and bring communities together, and I love to tell their stories. I also write for brands.
When not at work, I'm cooking, baking, playing soccer, or watching it (go Liverpool).
